Antioxidant Supplements

Let us try and understand why these are so important without going into too much of scientific detail. In very simple terms, our body extracts energy from food by an oxidative process. So, the body is carrying out a lot of oxidative process, I mean a lot.

However, the downside of these processes is the formation of something called ‘free radicals’. These free radicals are the by-products of oxidation.

They are super active and oxidize anything they encounter. Oxidation of food is good but these free radicals do not distinguish between food and some integral components of the cells. This wanton oxidation results in permanent and irreversible damage various components of the cells including the DNA.

Why are antioxidants important?

This damage to DNA and other cellular components has been found to be contributing factors in causing a number of diseases such as Cancer, Parkinson’s, Atherosclerosis and many, many more. Furthermore, free radicals cause rapid aging as well.

Are there any antioxidant supplements?

Although I am not a big fan of nutritional supplements, I understand that in today’s fast pace world, people might have to rely on dietary supplementation. If you need to supplement antioxidants, some of the ones you can try include Acai berry, Vitamin E, Ubiquinol, Liposomal Vitamin C. Always buy high quality supplements and avoid generics.
How can you maximize the antioxidant benefits?
Eliminate Sugar: Sugars often form a large portion of our modern diets. Less sugars in your diet decreases generation of free radicals which in turn means you will require less antioxidants. It can be difficult to shun sugars completely, but it is doable.Avoid smoking: Smoking is perhaps the most efficient way to generate tons of free radicals.

Not only it causes you to age prematurely, it can put tremendous stress on your antioxidant system. Avoid smoking at all costs.Get enough sleep and don’t stress too much: Lack and sleep and stress generate less than an ideal environment for your body to tackle oxidative stresses.

Make sure you are getting enough sleep.Grounding: Now, this is perhaps just awesome to know. Many people believe that walking barefoot on ground has a great antioxidant effect.

The believers in the theory argue that our to the fact that the ground is more negatively charged than our bodies, walking barefoot will cause the body to absorb electrons from the ground which will exert an antioxidant-like effect.

Although the jury is still out on the effectiveness of the process, it does not hurt to try out. Try and exercise barefoot or take walk on grass one in a while sans shoes.

Antioxidants are super-nutrients which you should try and include in your diets as much as possible. There are many ways to incorporate antioxidant rich foods in your diets without radically changing the way you eat.

That way you can stick to the diet for a long period of time. I hope you all try and modify your diets to take advantage of these awesome nutrients. Till next time!
